Rather than building bespoke software, Pointerra is deploying an existing solution into another critical infrastructure vertical.
As Olson explained, "the market's looking for repeatability."
That repeatability sits at the heart of enterprise SaaS. Customers want confidence that a solution can be deployed consistently, integrated into existing workflows and scaled across their organisation.

Building a higher-quality SaaS business
The company's recent expansion with Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) reinforces that strategy.
Having worked with the customer over several years, the relationship has evolved into a broader enterprise deployment with a clear pathway for ongoing expansion through additional users, data and analytics.
Importantly, Pointerra has deliberately shifted away from service-heavy implementations towards a more scalable software model.
Olson said the company has been "really disciplined" in ensuring deployments are "pure B2B SaaS."
That approach creates a stronger recurring revenue profile while allowing customers to expand usage as their digital transformation programs mature. It also enables Pointerra to support more enterprise customers without proportionally increasing its own operational footprint.
For software businesses, repeatability and scalability are increasingly becoming as important as revenue growth itself.
Why digital transformation continues to accelerate
Across utilities, mining, transport and energy, digital transformation is no longer simply about adopting new technology.
These organisations operate complex, long-life assets while facing increasing regulatory requirements, operational risk and ongoing pressure to improve productivity.
One of the strongest drivers, according to Olson, is the need to improve efficiency without compromising safety or compliance.
As he observed, "that almost forces them into an innovation corner."
For many critical infrastructure operators, technology is becoming one of the few practical ways to reduce manual workflows while maintaining operational performance.
That structural shift continues to support broader adoption of digital twin platforms and enterprise analytics.

AI is accelerating execution
Artificial intelligence has become one of the defining themes across the technology sector over the past year.
Within Pointerra, AI is helping accelerate product development, software engineering, sales, marketing and internal operations.
According to Olson, "the business is unrecognisable from the inside from a year ago."
While AI tools continue to evolve rapidly, the company's underlying objective remains unchanged.
As Olson put it, "all we do is shrink the workflow."
Rather than viewing AI as the product itself, Pointerra sees it as another way to help customers make faster, better decisions while enabling its own teams to innovate more efficiently.
Scaling across industries
Although Pointerra established its early success within electric utilities, the same underlying technology is now being deployed across a broader range of industries.
Mining, oil and gas, transport and other critical infrastructure sectors all face similar challenges: managing geographically dispersed assets, understanding change over time and improving operational decision-making.
While each industry presents different workflows and data requirements, the broader opportunity remains consistent.
By focusing on repeatable software deployments rather than customised projects, Pointerra is building a platform capable of scaling across multiple verticals while maintaining a consistent product strategy.
Looking Ahead
Enterprise software adoption rarely follows a straight line.

As Olson noted, the company's priorities remain clear: "new tier 1 customers across multiple sectors" and "growth in spend by existing" customers.
